Sitting Buddha Hermitage has been established to offer to those who practice in the Soto Zen tradition of Buddhism with the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives the opportunity to do individual silent retreats. Practical support and spiritual guidance are provided by the resident monk, Reverend Alicia Rowe.

In January 2014 a suitable rental property was located in Wirksworth in the Derbyshire Dales close to the Peak District National Park and Rev. Alicia moved there in February.

We have a good sized caravan serving as a guest hermitage and there is a room available in the house for a female retreat guest. There is also a summerhouse by the lake that has been set up as a Kanzeon shrine and those who live close enough to the Derbyshire Dales or are visiting the area are welcome to make use of it to do an individual silent day retreat.

This project started its life under the name Field of Merit and you might like to visit and read the posts that were made between July 2012 and April 2014.
