The Hermitage

Sitting Buddha Hermitage is run as a Registered Charity called Field of Merit, which was set up in 2013.

The Hermitage is presently occupying a rented property in the village of Cromford, near Matlock in Derbyshire, not far from the Peak District National Park. The property may originally have been a coach house, built in the late 1700’s. The space that the Hermitage occupies is above two large garages which look like they could well have housed coaches once upon a time.

The large main room has a meditation area at one end and a seating area at the other. Outside is a small enclosed courtyard which is a pleasant place to sit quietly when the weather allows.

One of the features of the Hermitage is a retreat room with its own bathroom. This room is available for private retreat if you are experienced in the practice of Soto Zen. The room can also be used if you would like to spend a quiet contemplative day or part-day at the Hermitage.

Rev. Alicia, as resident monk, offers an introduction to meditation on Saturday afternoons, weekly meditation evenings and day retreats. See the Activities page for more details.
