On Thursday morning as I was sitting at the table by the window eating my breakfast I saw a kingfisher streak across the lake, a flash of iridescent blue and orange. He settled on a branch over the lake long enough for me to grab my binoculars and then flew up and landed….on the low wall just in front of me! Such unexpected bursts of beauty feel like a blessing from the universe and remind me of the poem Eternity by William Blake:
He who binds to himself a joy
Does the winged life destroy;
He who kisses the joy as it flies
Lives in eternity’s sunrise.
I’d love to have a photo to put with this post but I don’t want to spend the time looking for free photos online – don’t suppose anyone out there has one? Later: thank you S for finding this photo!
